In this blog I aim to describe the progress of my work on Audio Project 1. I aim to update regularly and include any new information that is relevant to the task. I’ve been a bit delayed in regards to posting on here sooner as there have been issues with the site and I have been unwell, so lets get started!
For this project I decided very early on that I wanted to work with two of my Audio Production colleagues, Benjamin Marsh and Luke Johnston. We have worked extremely well with each other on previous tasks and most recently received a mark of 86 in our last Audio / Visual project, our best yet. We met up, discussed ideas for projects and realised another audio visual task would be best suited for our skill sets.
After our discussion we looked for media groups to work with and we liked the idea put forward by Yolanda Taylor, who had reached out to our tutor David McSherry in need of Audio for a Media Project. Ben and Yolanda exchanged emails and decided it would be beneficial to meet as soon as possible, so we got together in the library the following day (30th September).
The meeting was very helpful in terms of getting a clearer idea of the workload and the schedule that we will be working to. It also allowed us to clarify our roles in the project. We will be recording, editing and mixing all aspects of sound on this 15 – 20 minute project. Both parties left the meeting confident that they had found a good match. After the meeting we were invited to their facebook group where they have since shared a more accurate script and soundtrack ideas from other films.
We also had a meeting with our Tutor later in the week and he clarified our project would be viable and we had the green light to go ahead with it. It was very positive and I look forward to our next meeting.
I shall now post my learning outcomes for this task as I now have a much clearer view of what the project will entail. They are as follows:
- I will have a better knowledge of the practices of on set recording.
- I will further my abilities at writing music for film and to a specific brief.
- I will spread my workload throughout the semester in order to avoid rushing.
- I will have a greater understanding of professional client based projects and my role in the process.
- I will keep in regular contact with all members of the group to aid communication and efficiency.
In my next post I aim to share a song I have been working on and present a clearer definition of my role in the group. I also hope to have a definitive list of sound requirements that have been put forward by Novum, the media group we are working with.
