Tutor Feedback & Casting

The filmmaking process is going relatively slow at the minute but that doesn’t mean us as audio students have no input. After sharing my ideas at the original script development process i was invited to join Novum Films in their regular meeting with Chris Hainstock. While the sessions are mainly focused on the film students it was good to get some pointers and feedback from a Film Sound specialist, as well as our weekly meeting with our tutor, David Mcsherry. Chris stated that our group should have a meeting with him to explore the sound opportunities and this was a chance I jumped at.

The meeting was extremely productive and it was also important to keep in regular touch with the film group. We have a constant stream of dialogue together on a private group, but sometimes meeting in person can help get a point across further. This was even more salient as keeping in regular contact with the group was based around one of my learning outcomes so I feel I am already furthering my abilities in that regard.

On the 27th & 28th October Novum Films held auditions for the casting of our film. Although we had little imput in this process we kept in contact throughout and the auditions were a great success with the main cast members being found. This allowed us to prepare properly for the upcoming shooting as we knew no scenes would necessarily have to be dramatically changed as Novum were able to find a suitable actor to play each role.
