Film Music Research

To build on my research of Trent Reznor’s work I have chosen to study a film recommended by the media group.

It is a short film called ‘Soft’ and it won a Bafta for best short film.

The most interesting thing is that it doesn’t have any music in it! I used this as an inspiration and watched it to see what musicĀ I could put over it to try and improve it. This was helpful as when it comes down to making music for our film the piece will be completely barren of all music so it is a good place to start.

I also watched a series of films from the Lincoln Showcase last year and also the student film ‘The Last Fisherman’ I thought the audio was relatively solid but it gave me hope in that I feel we can do just as good a job with our sound.

One of the directors Alex Dearle informed me that he liked the idea of simple four chord songs for this piece. I can presume this is because it is quite a simple drama that doesn’t want to big a score. I have researched four chord songs and come up with a few of my own that I hope to develop on later in the process.
