Richmond Road, The Famous Jib Shot & Cancellation

On the 24th November Ben and I recorded again at 3 Temple Gardens. This time we were recording Faith and Sacha as they met on the staircase. This was moderately challenging for us as the staircase was a very open space so it was vulnerable to quite a lot of reverb but we managed to get decent recordings that we were pleased with. I don’t think I would have managed to get as high quality recordings without the practice that we have had so far.

There was a lot going on in terms of visual aids such as a smoke machine and light reflectors so it was important that we’d stayed out of the way of these whilst maintaining a high standard of audio. As you can see from the pictures below, there was a lot of crouching an interesting styles of boom operation but it worked!

The media students used a special mount called a jib to get a great shot of Faith walking up the stairs, however it was quite wide so the audio we got would just be used as a guide and we’d put foley and spot effects in later. Whilst this was setting up Ben and I recorded some room tones and foley such as Footstep creaks and jackets.

Another great session and we’re inching ever closer to that day we can call it a ‘rap’!

We had another day of recording cancelled on the 26th November as it was outside and it was stormy all day which would have ruined all our equipment so this will have to be reorganised for another day.
